So I've been trying to do this for the last 3 weeks. I want to program several counties in WI, IL, and IN. I want to start with a few WI counties just so I get an understanding of how to do this. I want to program Milwaukee, Waukesha, Kenosha, Racine, Walworth, and Jefferson counties.

Just to vent a little, why do I have to program settings if I can just import them? What I mean is, I've imported the settings from Radio Reference, but why do I have to program them too? :(

you shouldn't have to, once you imported them into your application just send that data to the radio it shoudl be all set to go, then you can learn what is what and go back and clean up data you dont use etc etc

Depends on the application. Protias, what app are you using?

One thing that the web interface - in it's current version at least - seems to confuse programmers with is the system type. I know the current version of FreeScan doesn't set this correctly as the types supplied don't always match up with the actual system types. I've been working with Assaf to correct this issue, but other apps may have similar issues. However, as long as you don't upload them before you check all the settings, you should be able to fix this. Of course, setting things like quick keys and so forth always has to be done by the user.

I am using Freescan. I don't have quick keys setup just yet and probably won't do it either. What do you mean by checking all the settings?

Check things like your system type, if you are going to use control channel only mode (where you only program the control freqs - those in red and blue in the database - and remove the rest), set up a startup key (if you wish), whether you wish to use ID Scan or ID Search (found on the system screen) ect.

You will need to assign (either manually or using the 'find free' button) quick keys for the system you create, as well as any groups that are allocated and you wish to keep (in a trunk system, the groups consist of talkgroups). Although you could conceivably lock out all the group quick keys, as long as you have a system and site quick key enabled, the scanner should scan that system regardless. Think of quick keys as your 'bank select' keys; if you don't have at least one quick key enabled the scanner will not know that it has something to scan.

Remember the heirarchy of a DMA system, for a BCT15...

System----->Site (can have many)--------->Group(can have many)

why not post up in your state area to ask for someone to give you a confg file that you can just dump onto your scanner, or at least you can look at the config file to see if your missing something.
