• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hey all, seriously hoping this doesn't break any rules and isn't covered elsewhere (if it is, I surely can't find it).

I recently picked up some EFJ 5100 ES radios from ebay, some gov contractor dumping them I was told, and am trying to wipe them to program. Radios are UHF R1 P25 radios for what it's worth.

I also picked up the programming cable to go with them, OEM #023-5100-970 (link to ebay).

Ok, so here is the rub. That cable gets seen by windows, but is lacking drivers. I can't for the life of me find drivers for the thing, but it doesn't seem to be a protected software. I'm assuming that these drivers are possibly something that is just lost to the sands of time but I'm hoping that someone out there may have the driver they can share? (again, I'm hoping this isn't breaking the rules, I don't see a driver as being the same as programming software, but considering the programming software was also freely available online without needing to torrent, I felt safe in the request here).

Is there any hope for me or am I out the $100 for the cable? For what it's worth, rfguys seems to have a cable as well, but they are sold out currently. Help?

The drivers came on a mini-CD in the cable box. I'm not sure how you may get them out in the open market at this point.

Seems crazy to me that I can get seemingly every version of PCC ever made but no driver for the OEM programming cable. Is there any known programing cable that works with PCC without issue? I really don't wanna play roulette with $100+ cables.

I reached out to EFJ via their email tech support address and was pleasantly provided with the driver that solved my issue getting the cable to work.

I then responded asking if I could share this driver with others who are struggling with the issue, and was granted permission to do so. I've attached the driver in a zip file.

I'm also reaching out to the admin of https://wiki.w9cr.net/ who seemed to have a lot of other additional software so that he may host it as well if he so chooses.

I hope this helps others that come across this issue. Admins, if this is an issue please PM me, I am attempting only to help the community and don't view my actions as breaking any rules.

Permission from EFJ to share driver with others. Identifying information redacted (Admins, I can share a non-redacted version with you directly if necessary)

Just for reference, the original cable was serial and the USB version came out later (arguably, EFJ did a little better recognizing the disappearance of serial ports from laptops than Motorola did). I too had to track down the driver a few weeks ago.

I have not yet heard from Bryan, and I'm not yet able to PM you my email, perhaps you can PM me though? Let me know and I'll forward the email I had sent to Bryan.
