The bag for cable 20-047 lists PRO-106 as one of the scanners it is used for. The RS website page for the PRO-106 shows the cable for programming is the GRE 500 cable 20-546. Can either be used? Can the 20-047 be used with programming software? Big difference in price.

The 20-546 is the replacement for the 20-047. They're functionally equivalent.

Yes, so I found out. A little deeper digging on the forum told me that it is the same cable. Difference is the programming software trial that comes with the later model. Earlier model is discontinued but I was able to purchase it at my local RS store on Saturday. To add insult to injury, I already had the cable, bought a few years ago for my PRO-96. Should have done my homework here.

Thanks for the response.

RS 20-289 Serial Cable

I have a Pro-106 to program for a friend. Will the RS-20-289 serial to 1/8 mono jack work for this scanner?

Thx

Nope. The newer scanners are expecting both Tx and Rx simultaneously over the cable. That's basically a stereo jack on the end of the cable.

THX Rick, any chance a mono to stereo adapter plug would work? Might try it anyway as I only have the one scanner to program.

Pro-96 -Pro-106 Programing cable

Before I read here that the Serial programing cable from the pro-96 would not work with the Pro-106 (PSR-500) i wrote GRE and they responded that it would in fact work? Has anyone confirmed this?

Hello Mike,

Thank You for contacting GRE.
Yes the Serial cable you have for PRO-96 will work with the PSR-500.

Should you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us.

Regards,
Raj Gounder

There are several programming cables that work with the Pro-96. The earliest had a 9 pin 'serial type' connector and WON'T work with the Pro-106. Cables with the USB - A connector on the end that work with the Pro-96 WILL work with the Pro-106.

Yes, the same cable will work fine I have both and use the one cable.
No, you will need different software to upload to the scanner. I use Win500, Arc500pro, and PSREdit500 I have to say I use Win500 the most.

Programing Cable 20-289

So 04z1v6,

A re you confirming that the 20-289 made for the Pro-96Gray Serial with the Right Angle pin will in factt work on the Pro-106 ? Raj at Gre called me before they closed and went online to look at the gray 20-289 and th06at it would it work with the 106 but it would work for the 2096 the Pro 197 ,Psr500 and the Psr-600. How can he be that wrong? Even took the time to look it up including the image of this connector. If he is this wrong he might need to find w new job then. If anyone has the cable and the time to try it let is know. Raj he also said no damage would occur to scanner by just connecting to cable please let me or the know results. Thank-you, Mike

The 20-289 cable (the grey 9 pin to mini-mono) will NOT work with the PRO-106. Only the 20-047, 20-546, or the GRE equivelent will work with the PRO-106... These are all USB to Mini-Stereo cables.

Also when using the 20-047 and 20-546, do not use the short 3" adapter cable as it will also make those cables not work.

Sorry people, I was talking about the 20-047 and I should have made that clear. The cable you are talking about will not work as the others have said. Sorry about that bad info.
