Hi All.
I have a mint condition BC796D that really doesn't get much use as I tend to use my Pro 106 and GRE scanners more. Anyway, it's been a while since the firmware has been updated and I don't have a programming cable and was wondering if someone can help direct me to a source for one of these?

It is a standard RS232 DB9 cable. Local electroncs store (RadioShack, Best Buy, Fry's...) will have one.

Okay, thanks.
I remember trying a couple years ago with no luck. So just to confirm...... it's a nine pin male plug for the back of the scanner and will the computer end of things then have a USB "plug"?
Btw, I live in Ontario, Canada.
Thanks again for your help.

I have one of those cabels and that scanner. I can't get it to work on a WIN 7 laptop. If you have XP it will work great.

Thanks for that heads up! Ya, I've got XP and am glad to hear it should work with that....

I remember the problem I had a couple years ago finding the appropriate cable was due to the fact that my laptop did not have the right plug to accept this cable.

My laptop will not accept a serial port cable and someone mentioned perhaps a serial port to USB adapter might be the ticket. Does anyone have any experience with this adapter or have another suggestion? Thanks...

There are a couple of dozen threads covering USB to Serial cables in this forum. There should be a sticky about it since, the topic comes up about once a month or more. In fact, there was one last week. I know that VBulletin's search function isn't the greatest, but a little searching will come up with a lot of information.

Well, isn't my face red.
A serial port to USB adapter was an afterthought and I guess in the heat of the moment I asked before I searched for myself.
I'm going to search that out now............. thanks garys

Thanks to everyone who replied for their assistance. I just ordered a serial port to USB cable from Tiger Direct.
