According to GRE's website, the P/N 100-016 USB programming cable that comes with the PSR-500 and others can be used with other Radio Shack scanners. I have a Pro-96 that I'd like to use with the cable but I was under the impression that you need an adapter to take it from a stereo TRS to a mono. Is an adapter actually needed or can you use the cable as is? If an adapter is needed, which pins are needed to build your own or is it possible to use a stereo to mono 1/8" audio adapter for this purpose?

Thanks!

I'm not sure, but I believe that the 96 will work without the adapter. If you need one, any old 1/8" stereo to mono adapter will work. Basically take a stereo jack and mono plug and wire the shield to shield and wire the left & right connections (tip and ring) together on the jack and attach them to the tip of the plug.

From Don Starr's website:

". . . adapter is not required for any GRE-made scanner, and it must not be used with the PSR-500 family scanners."
