programming cable

Will the radioshack USB Scanner Programming Cable work on my bcd996t or do i need to buy the uniden usb 1? Or is there another cable i could get at best buy or curcuit city or radioshack that would work just as well. Thanks Happy Holidays

is there any other model cable that you know that works that i could pick up local so it does not need to be shipped?

Many "Generic" USB --> RS232 adapters work (and are available at RadioShack, Best Buy, Fry's, Circuit City...). These cables have the USB plug on one end, and a DB-9 connector on the other. You plug the cable you got with your scanner into the DB-9. When you plug in the adapter, (assuming the drivers install properly) the PC assigns a COM port to the cable.

thats how i do it works great for me.
