To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Programming CM200's for repeater use

Not surprisingly, I'm a bit confused about programming these 2 radios. They were in a GR500 repeater setup, with duplexer, R.I.C.K. and all cables
Looking at the current settings and how they are programmed, both are programmed identical. Is that correct? I'm not sure what the RICK actually does and if it wants them programmed that way?

For example, they were programmed for the 462.025 frequency and both radios were set up with the RX at 467.025 and the TX at 462.025

Also, under Package/Pin Configuration they both also show RICK or l2R Rx Should the TX radio say Tx and not Rx? Example: RICK or I2R Tx

Its common to program both radios identical so they can be interchangeable and swapped if a transmitter blows, etc.
Oh, OK. I was hoping that they were programmed wrong. That would have explained the poor operation. I currently have a GMRS system set up with an Icom fr4000 and it works great. I was hoping to have this GR500 setup as a backup, but when I swapped it out to test, the rx side was awful. I'll keep testing, and try both GM200's as mobile units for a bit, to rule out that they are defective. Maybe something with the RICK is causing problems?

The RICK settings (it's all DIP switch based) can be found through online documents for the GR300/GR500. The accessory connector pinout can also be found from the same source (and how the original Maxtrac/GM300 radios needed to have the accessory connector configured. You will need to match the accessory connector on the newer setup.

The RICK appears to be se up correctly, with DIP switches set for Single Band-Unidirectional. The cables appear good quality, with all 16 pins wired and the radios but put out (close to) their advertised power.

Is there a radio side and a RICK side for the cables? It appears that there isn't

Also, just to be sure, both the TX radio and the RX radio should be programmed 100% identical to each other? I can just clone one to the other?

Here are the cables and the Accessory setting in the programming

You have the RICK manual, no? There is troubleshooting in that. Also a schematic. Basically you want pin 11 RX Audio (programmed as filtered) to connect to pin 2 Mic input. There are dip switches to do this and also there is a single pot to tweak to set the transmit audio level. All said and done the audio should go right through and sound fine.

I do have the manual, and it definitely helps out, even though half of it goes right over my head. I'm sure it's me missing something somewhere. I might just scrap these CM200's/RICK combo and just slap a radius r1225 in this thing
