If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have a zone set up in my Anytone 878 HT in addition to the regular ham stuff, where I can monitor a bunch of commercial agencies using DMR. It works very well. But I want to tweak even further. When there is a transmission, a NUMBER appears in display....different numbers with the various companies. These numbers appear to be the RADIO ID of person using the radio. Now in ham radio, in DMR we use the worldwide database so users info shows up on display. Is there any way to do the same thing for commercial DMR users? I dont think by adding them to the amateur database will work. For example if "ABC towing" transmits, a number shows on screen....when TX ends, the name "ABC towing" appears at bottom of display. I would just want the actual company name to appear instead of a number....trying to identify the actual individual user (of those numbers). Hopefully this makes sense and there is probably not many hams who program commercial DMR things! The reason for doing this is just for something different to listen to.

I don't have this radio, but other DMR radios and you should be able to enter the ids into the contact list and put whatever the name is used with.

Going forward see if you can private ids within the software and most likely on the radio.

All my radios I only enter the radio ids of people only talk with on regular basis and never use the complete ham database.

It works exactly the same as the amateur radio IDs. Add them to your list of radio ids manually via the software and wala, they will show up just like the amateur IDs do. Only thing that could go wrong is if the ID is already in the radio as an amateur ID. But you would have noticed that already, an amateur ID would pop up on your display while listening to a commercial channel if this was the case.

Well I was able to get quite a few working. There are a few user ID's that look like amateur ones but I did a search at Radio ID website and those particular radio ID's came back blank, nothing there. The tricky part is identifying what I hear, whether its maintenance, security, housekeeping, etc. Also some places use a radio ID that someone else uses so I can only use 1. I am surprised how far I can hear with just an Anytone 878 HT with these commercial stations. I am trying to find the callsigns but some are not listed on RR or NE Scan sites. I dont know how to use the FCC database and I get "nothing found" all the time.

The only big issue is when I update my dmr user database, its going to OVERWRITE all the non ham entries I spent HOURS on! I only download the database for USA only, but the stupid software doesnt let you copy & save parts of the entries in the database. So I either LOSE all my commercial entries, or just dont update the database.:(

You Should be able to save your codeplug with your commercial stuff to a file, like I do with mine.

I can save the actual codeplug, thats not a problem. But if I update the contact list it will over write whats in radio. There is now way to separate the commercial stuff from the amateur. It would be good to save the section of the contact list with all my commercial entries in it, but the CPS is really restrictive and I cant do it. In other words, right now my radio is working fine and codeplug is saved. But when I update the digital contact list, wont it overwrite whats in there now? I just dont want to have to re type the commercial section of the digital contact list every time I update the list. Or maybe when I update list it will ignore the commercial stuff in there and add the newer contacts below that section.

You could keep a second code plug in your computer and copy all your commercial DMR IDs into there. It can be blank codeplug except for the radio IDs, doesn't matter. Then before you do a mass update on the amateur IDs copy the commercial IDs to the other code plug, then do the amateur update, then copy the commercial IDs back.

OK I will try that, I didn't think that far!

What Model of Anytone? I know with my 878 UV II+ radios and a 578 UV III+ there are separate sections in CPS for the full HAM database vs 'normal' contact & group definitions.

In the section Digital->Contact/TalkGroup you can assign text for as many group calls and private call values as you would like.
The section Digital->Digital Contact List is the section which will get over-written when you import the radioid.net information for Amateur Radio ID to Callsign lookups
