• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Was wondering if anyone could help me with a problem programming my CP185. I'm using "RVN5194 CPS ENTRY R02.02 CP185 PORTABLE" in Windows 7. Software & drivers installed fine and from what I can tell assigns a com port to the usb-serial interface no problem. So this is where my problem begins, If I leave the CPS auto detect com, it responds with no device found. If I specific the port that I know is assigned, I get the following error.

"Application has detected an unexpected system exception. Please close all the open archives & try again. If you continue to get this message, please contact CS"

If anyone could she some light or offer assistance I would greatly appreciate it !

Thanks

First of can anyone confirm if Entry Level CPS V R02.02 Build 58 for CP185 is correct. Secondly I'm using a generic USB to Serial cable do I need a Motorola specific cable ?

You must use a cable that is designed for the CP185, CP150, CP200 and other Motorola radios that used the same programming pin outs. There are a number of them available on Ebay and elsewhere.

Also, make sure you have the Prolific drivers installed. There are a number of threads about this already. Use the search function to find all the details.

When you search on this, you will also find that some of the aftermarket USB programming cables are not particularly reliable.

You may have better luck searching for info on the CP150 or CP200 cables. They are the same.

Turn off auto port detect. It has NEVER worked for me. Manually choose the right comm port.

Even then, the software won't work right on my Dell desktop that is my primary radio programming PC.

But it works fine on a Dell laptop. Both with the same version of XP with the same updates.
