You would probably be better off asking in the Indiana forum, particularly since you aren't mentioning exactly which EDACS system you are trying to program. Our database (see the link in the blue toolbar on top?) has a pretty good listing of systems. When you ask such a question, it's always helpful to supply the link to it, so that others can see exactly what you are trying to accomplish.

It is also good to say whether you are doing this by hand or by software, and if by software, which package. There are many compatible packages for the 996, and 2 are freeware.

However, as a general rule, frequencies in an EDACS system must go in a certain order called the Logical Channel Number or LCN. Each frequency in the database for such a system is preceded by a small 2 digit number - that's the LCN.

I would suggest first reading the Easier to Read 996 manual, and check out the various software packages for this scanner. The FAQ below has links for all of this and much more. Then go to the Indiana forum, and see if someone can give you some pointers, or perhaps even a file that can be imported. The FAQ is here; (all links are in blue and/or underlined)

The Easier to Read manual is linked at the bottom, and you can see the article that covers programming with software is also linked here.

I will do that. I do have the ARC996PRO software to program my scanner. I know it has made it easy to program so far.

thanks

Note that on this scanner, it doesn't matter what order you enter the frequencies. However you must be sure to assign each frequency the correct LCN.

Paul does that apply to the other DMA scanners, or just to the 996 (and the 15, I would assume?)

This is an important item that can be added to the FAQ 73 Mike

That applies to all DMA scanners. The scanner will use the LCN you enter. It might sort them back into LCN order (I haven't checked...since I enter from the database I always end up entering them in LCN order, anyway). But I've seen more than a few times the added hint that you need to skip channels for unused LCN's...and that is definitely not the case as there are no channels to skip (you just don't create it in the first place).

The only time it really matters is when LCNs get rearranged (as happens with rebanding). You don't need to complete re-enter the system in LCN order if just the LCNs and a few frequency assignments changed. Just edit the existing channels "in place" and it will be fine.
