I am moving to Tulsa in a few weeks and am working on programming my scanners (SDS 100, BCD436, 2 Unication G4s) ahead of time before my move.

I'm trying to figure out what sites I'd need to program to hear Tulsa City and County and all the neighboring counties on OKWIN.

What all talkgroups come through on the Tulsa site? Would programming sites like Creek, Rogers, Osage even be necessary or is their traffic carried on the Tulsa simulcast site? It looks pretty straight forward at least as what I'm seeing on the Calls platform where Tulsa City and County are carried on the Tulsa site, but I am curious about the suburbs.

As far as public safety goes on the BACRN, I know encryption is used heavily from what I've read. Do I actually need to program the site for the city to in order hear their talkgroups or are all the talkgroups carried on all of the sites? I was planning on programming the City Plex site since it's closest to me, but wasn't sure if I'd still be able to hear traffic from BA, Bixby, Jenks, Glenpool etc.

Anything else I might want to know about scanning Tulsa would be great to know as well!

Hi again I wanted to add that turner ohp units are heard on the creek site. Okmulgee county to the south are using dmr for most public safety sheriffs department is also using okwin. Osage county is pretty much a mix of dmr and analogue.

I haven't seen the term"city plex site" before. Are you referring to Tulsa site 061?

As he said, Jenks will be in the clear and most of the others will be Encrypted. City Plex is a location of one of BARCN Tower sites as listed in the DB.

I noticed this, Should I expect to be able to hear Okmulgee and other counties from Tulsa county in around the midtown area?

Good to know, Thanks! Is all traffic on the system passed through the City Plex site? I am planning to run a Pro96Com log session when I get into town.

I am in midtown (31st and Peoria) and use a Unication G4. I monitor both the Okmulgee and Creek County sites without issue. As noted, the Creek Co. site carries Troop A (Turner), and also carries Lincoln Co. Sheriff, Stroud PD, and a few other local agencies in addition to those that you would expect that are physically located within Creek Co.

I am unable to monitor the Catoosa or Coweta sites (and have marginal coverage of the Owasso site), but the signal strengths from these sites improve once you travel east of US-169.

Concerning the BA CityPlex site, I have found that it does not consistently carry the Wagoner Co. Sheriff (others my have additional information about this). The BA site does, and I have marginal coverage here (much better signal coverage east of Yale Ave). Jenks PD is the most frequent traffic that I hear on the CityPlex site.

Also, the Okmulgee site (as noted) carries traffic from the Okmulgee Co. Sheriff and Okmulgee PD (although they use DMR as well). This site also carries the Muskogee Co. Sheriff, Muskogee PD, and Cherokee Nation Marshal Service.

Are you able to hear Okmulgee DMR in midtown Tulsa?

I haven't tried recently, but yes, I have been able to pick up DMR traffic from their "north" site with the aid of an external antenna.

Broken Arrow Fire Dept, Broken Arrow Police Dept Bixby PD, Glenpool PD are the only ones encrypted 🔐 most traffic I’ve listened to are from the tower located in Broken Arrow. If you are listening to this system, you got to have a good signal with the towers as the CC changes. Jenks Fire some times it’ll show that they are key’n up from the BA TOWER and then the next it’ll show City Plex 😏
