Easiest way, IMHO, is zip code (or gps) scanning and service types. Listen for a week or so, lockout (via avoid) systems or departments or channels you don't want. Once you are pretty satisfied, save your current programming as a favorite list. Edit (via Sentinel or other programming software) that favorite list and remove any entries that show as avoided. Save the edited favorite back to the scanner. Turn off national database and turn on your new favorite under Lists to Load. Sit back and enjoy.

the Hoosier state, baby.
Seems like the information you’re requesting is already included with the scanner… such as the quick start up guide that comes with the scanner right out of the box. However, if you’re having issues with that, and other tools such as a basic Google search, you can TRY THIS easier to read 100% free online manual. It covers every base under the sun to help make programming speed bumps a breeze.

Trying to figure out how to program my scanner SDS200 By using Radio Reference
If you like, I can assist you with your question. I don't know if you have owned any police scanners, but the architecture of the Uniden digital radios can have a rather steep learning curve for folks. It took me a very long time to learn how.

I can hopefully save you some time. You Tube videos were very helpful to me. However, if it weren't for a very kind gentleman on RR, a rarity indeed, I would still be in the dark.

If you are expecting the "Easier to Read" guide to help you in the beginning stage of learning, it is like attempting to read a foreign language without help. When people give this guide to some folks, there are generally more questions posted afterward.

I don't know what you are wanting to monitor. Hence, I will just throw this out and see if it sticks to the wall. I found your county on this seven county P25 (digital) Phase II radio system: Central New York Interoperable Communications Consortium (CNYICC) Trunking System, Regional, New York

I am semi-retired with time on my hands. You can start a RR conversation with me. Then, I can give you my email, if you like. Then, if you want an example of a "Favorite", I can send you one for examination.

Uniden provides customers with free programming software, Sentinel. That is all I use. I've purchased other programming software, but I generally end up throwing them in the trash.

There are some essential things that are needed before you can program the radio. If you do this incorrectly, you can end up corrupting the micro-SD card that comes with the radio.

Let me know. Good day.

As RaleighGuy has already noted, you cannot directly create a Favorites Listfrom the online database without using software.

Using Sentinel, you can create one or more Favorites lists by appending individual systems from the database to a list. But for larger regional, or statewide, systems, appending also appends every site in the system. While you can selectively append one or more departs, all the sites are going to join the party in the list you are creating.

Since you are a Premium Subscriber, you can use ProScan (as suggested by nessnet) to import only the systems, sites, & departments you want. (I use ProScan, but ARC536 can also handle imports.)

Have the SDS 200 and would like to know the best way to edit my zip code list for quicker scanning.

I select county, then there is Nation or State Wide. Do I have to avoid each one I don't want scanned or is there an easier way?

Please advise.

Ensnared I see you're in Waco I'm in Bryan how can I reach you direct for some help? Don't see how to message you direct or private here.

Thanks fxdscon ! Trying to find the best way to edit my national DB and then zip code using sentinel .

It can be done from the scanner, menu, set scan selection, set nationwide but for a more visual approach, open sentinel and read the scanner. Then go into sentinel, open any state, any county, then nationwide and avoid any of the nationwide stuff you have zero interest in.

Same can be done with statewide systems. Open your state, any county, statewide

You also leave a statewide system enabled, and avoid just departments you have zero interest in. I left NYS Medevac but avoided all the areas I have no interest in.

Also with statewide systems, sometimes stuff from other states will overlap your state.. To see exactly what will load in the scanner when doing zip code, use sentinel Add Channels On Range, set service types, range and your zip, it it will create a list based on those settings. Fastest way to create a favorites list. Delete anything not wanted after creation.

Remember that any editing that you do, on the main database in Sentinel, will be reset & overwritten the next time you update the main database.

As far as the Nationwide systems, you can edit those to avoid them on the scanner itself. When you have the scanner set to use the full database, then, using the scanner's menu, choose the Set Scan Selection sub-menu.

That will get you here:

Go into the Nationwide Systems, and you can avoid the categories that are not of interest.

But if you proceed using the steps listed by Dave, then you can edit the Favorites list that it creates to avoid (or remove) those items not of interest to you. Once you have edited that list, then use your profile (in Sentinel) to scan that newly created list and no longer use the main database. You can also tweak your list to add alert tones or LED's for specific channels of interest. You can also add quick keys, if so desired, to enable you to toggle specific systems, departments, and sites on or off.

Of course, your best option, is to become a Premium Subscriber & use software such as ProScan to import and customize exactly what you want. But, using Sentinel, you can at least get a good start.

And you also have to remember that range are what gets added to the ranges already set in the database. If you add 50 miles to a department of TG's it will then be picked up by the scanner 50 miles outside of their jurisdiction. If a tower have 50 miles added, to its setting of perhaps 35 miles in the DB, then it's range are 85 miles that your scanner probably wont receive but will still be added to your scanning cycle.
