Programming grecom arc-500

I have a serial cable to pc/if on the scanner from my pro-96, but the program for the gre only has options for usb cable. Any workaround to use my serial cable? I am trying to program a friends scanner in the MI area on the P25 system.

The GRE 500/600 only take a USB connection.
Also the tip on the end of your cable wouldn't work (96 is mono and GRE is stereo)

You need either the 20-047 from Radio shack (remove the extension) or the GRE cable from thief website.
