Hi I'm programming an ht1250 with a USB cable profilic driver. When I read or write to the radio the radio goes into test mode, and I get an error saying cps couldn't open the com port.

To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:
Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.
For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Make sure the proper COM Port is selected. This can be done by opening the File Drop Down Menu, selecting Read Radio and check to see that the proper com port is available. Depending on your computer, the COM Port will show up as USB or COM 1-48.
If that doesn't work, i can walk you through identifying exactly which port is being utilized for the cable.

Comm1 is the correct port. I do use the drop down menu when reading the radio. What cps version do I need for an ht1250.
Thread moved to Motorola forum as the HT1250 is not a scanner.

Thanks Mike, did not see where it was posted. Uninstall the driver then reinstall. If you are positive that the selected comm port is correct, the issue is either the cable, the driver or your computer. What version windows are you using.

Windows xp service pack 2 32 bit. I have reinstalled the driver and didn't work unfortunately.

The same version that programmed the radio last, or newer, but never older.

Shill, do a search on this topic. I know there were some minor issues with SP2 and the USB cable. While the fix was relatively simple, I suggest using a RIB and cable for this.
