Hi all, I'm having some problems getting our BCD325P2 scanners programmed correctly on our county's P25 trunked system. We did have them programmed by the vendor we purchased through (I worked at a newspaper) but now I can't get the vendor to respond back for questions/troubleshooting and I'm really frustrated.

We are located in Lyon County, Kansas. We are receiving frequencies for the entire Kansas P25 system if I have worked this out correctly, and we do not need that much information. I only need for us to be scanning the local frequencies. Can anyone help me troubleshoot and reprogram? I'm seriously at my wit's end here!

Thanks so much!

Without knowing who programmed the scanner for you, and what they included, it's pretty much a guess (so far) as to what is programmed and what you actually need.
Do you have any software to program your scanner?
I definitely agree. Knowing what software is being used, and posting a copy of the programming file, would lead to better suggestions on what needs to be done.

I see that your county, as well as Emporia, have talkgroups on the statewide system, KSICS. Those two entities also have a number of conventional channels. You would want to program both the statewide system, including the sites in your county (at least the ones that you are close enough to hear), and include the talkgroups specific to what you want to monitor. Presumably, you would want the ones pertaining to public safety in your county (Law Enforcement, Fire, and EMS).

For the conventional channels, outside of the county & Emporia, the smaller cities only have a fire department channel listed. That's not unusual, if the county handles law enforcement dispatching.

If you can advise what software is being used, and more specifics on exactly what you want to monitor, we would be more able to help get you on track. If the vendor programmed your scanner, and you do not have any software installed on your PC, then probably it would be best if you installed one of the software programs that cover the scanner. That would allow you to post a file showing what was programmed, as well as allow someone here on the forums to provide you an edited file more closely following what you want. As long as you are not dealing with DMR or NXDN systems (I don't see any listed in your county other than one used by businesses), then FreeSCAN could be used both to read what is in the scanner, as well as loading an updated programming file. (As the name implies, FreeSCAN is available as a free download.)

Might I suggest that you have this post moved to the Kansas forum where someone locally who is more versed in the systems around you can assist? As an aside, there are several software packages that could greatly assist you in programming this scanner yourself. I use the same one here in the Chicago area with great success. Freescan is a free software that is no longer supported but can work pretty well for you. I would also recommend ProScan, a one time license fee that is very versatile and works very well with many Uniden scanners. Either way, you would still need a subscription to the radioreference.com site to access the vast database maintained here.

I would be very happy to help with the programming. Just tell me what you would like to monitor. Lyon County has 5 sites. I can set up each site with a quick key so that you can easily select which site or sites you want to use. Here is the link for FreeSCAN: Downloads - Sixspot Software I can attach the file here so that you can use it to program your scanners. I will do a separate file for the conventional frequencies.

We don't have software to program it currently -- however my publisher would purchase it if required.
If, as I noted above, you do not have any DMR or NXDN systems to monitor, FreeSCAN will program your scanner, as well as read what is currently in the scanner, so that a programming file can be created. Once you have a programming file, you can attach it to a post, so that someone can take a look, and make suggestions as to what changes are needed.

The there is a User Manual for FreeSCAN in the Wiki.

You can download FreeSCAN here:

The 2 most commonly used are Freescan and Proscan. Can't find a good link for Freescan at the moment, but I think doctordialtone has one. You can learn about Proscan at Proscan.org. There is a fee, but you have lifetime updates and VERY good customer service. The creator is right here on RadioReference.

ProScan does have a thirty day free trial. It does much more than FreeSCAN, and supports multiple models of scanners that FreeSCAN does not.
