programming PL tones on a 898t

hey guys,just wondering how to program PLtones on my 898t,as i want to monitor WNY police frequencies,and after checking the database,i see that they use a system where the only differences is the PLtone.i looked up in my scanner manual,but as you all know,its pretty useless describing the procedures to do so.as the warmer weather approaches,im capable of receiving these signals.any help would be appreciated.thx in advance.

I just looked at the directions given in the manual. They are very clear, I don't know how anyone could explain it any better.

Back when I owned one I did exactly as it said in the manual and it worked fine. Possibly you have an early print of the manual and there may have been some translation errors. Compare your manual's instructions to the on-line PDF version of the manual. Possibly it's different.

The manual is pretty much straight forward on it but just go to the channel you want to program a tone, push ctcss/dcs then enter (the 000.0 will come up) your tone then hit enter.

If you already have the freq programmed, just hit the E button and the PL display should start flashing. Enter the PL or DPL you want and press the E button again.

thx for the reply,the problem im having is when u hit the ctss button,then enter,the pltone doesnt flast 0.000.i'll keep playing with it,thx again.

The CTCSS button turns the feature on and off. It has nothing to do with entering the tone.

To enter the tone when programming a frequency, program the frequency first, then hit enter and that enters the frequency. Hit enter again and CTCSS 000.0 will flash. Enter the tone and hit enter again and you're good to go.

To enter a tone for a frequency you already have programmed, hit hold, scroll to the channel the frequency is in, hit enter and CTCSS 000.0 will flash. Enter the tone and hit enter and you're all set.
