Does the delay time mean how long the channel is held once opened or the time it takes the radio to recognize the traffic.

basically,,,delay is how long the radio-hangs-(for lack of a better term)
on the freq/TG after the brodcast has stopped,before
releasing the search feature to continue scanning.

Delay is how long it stays on after a person hangs up their push-to-talk mic. Usually it's 2 seconds and hopefully the other person responds within that time so you hear their reply.

Ok delay is set at 2000 by default in the bottom right corner of screen(above hits box) is this correct?

Correct. It's actually 2000 milliseconds take out the zeros and it's 2 seconds. 3000 ms = 3 secs etc.
