Programming software for TRX-1

So I ordered a TRX-1 today, expecting it to arrive tomorrow. I've heard mixed things about the programming software, but I see the Whistler provided software is the only opton due to a Whistler policy to not allow companies like Butel to develop for the device. This seems odd, I can't imagine why Whistler would care since they aren't selling their software separately but instead include it with the radio. Can anyone fill in a new Whistler, long time GRE (and Uniden) owner?

Because that is their policy. They obviously have an agreement/contract with a software supplier and they are sticking to it. Everything else is conjecture. Annoying? Somewhat. Frustrating? Yes. Unusual? Not necessarily so.

I find the EZScan software works plenty well enough that I don't have a desire anything from a third party anyway.

This is not a whistler thing, it's been like this since the gre-800 came out.
