Thanks

RT Systems over Butel, hands down. You will get tired fast of shuffling the sd card back and forth and importing/exporting. Might as well just use Excel or your favorite spreadsheet editor instead of Butel.

However, all the bugs that were/ still are present (no release notes) in RT Sytems really erroded my faith in them. I'm still repairing errors caused by these bugs. Made me look a little more carefully at other RT products I have, a little disappointed.

I use the ICom software by far the most. I paid for all three (four if you count excel).

RT Systems. It allows me to change the radio’s configuration.
Great point, I forgot Butel can't change the radio's settings.

OP, there are 2 other (older) threads on this subject. Scroll down in the list of threads, you'll find them pretty quickly.

I'll second Hit_Factor's reply. All in all, I probably use Icom's software more than any however. It is thorough but does lack some features RT's does better like bulk editing.
Like RT's software for the Icom R8600, some radio configuration items are still missing. Many are non-essential but when you realize certain things cannot be done with RT's software, it can be disappointing as you must change things in the radio or end up using Icom's software.
I find myself using Icom's software by default more than any other. If I'm going to make a lot of changes to an entire group or a large percentage of a group, then I'll use RT's software and then read the radio back into Icom's software and change those radio specific settings that can't be changed by RT's or Butel's packages.
I find myself doing the exact same with my R8600 and its available software minus Butel as I don't think they ever released anything for the R8600.
Butel's method of backing up your R30's configuration settings and working with that config file is just strange as well. It's slow and cumbersome to say the least. Why Butel chose that method is beyond me unless there was no direct access to the R30's settings when Gommert first started developing software for the R30. Butel's software may be okay if they re-wrote it to work directly like Icom and RT_Systems do but that would likely mean scrapping ARC-30 and starting over. I doubt Gommert likes the thought of that.

ARC30 is a cheap solution (US$ 14.95) for basic editing the R30 memory/edge files as that is what most R30 users want to do.
It also imports from the radioreference database something the Icom software at 74.95 (!) will not do. The transfer of data using the SD card is not slow nor cumbersome and is very simular to programming the Uniden homepatrol series.
The whole process takes less than 60 seconds to transfer data and will do for most R30 users that just need basic an cheap editting of memory files and memory management.
