• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I've read post on here and through the manual many times, but I am having trouble understanding how to program the trunked stuff. I am a complete newbie to trunking. Ok, I have a BC780XLT and I want to program in the data for this area: http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=TRSDB&sid=426

Ahh, Redmond.

The absolute EASIEST way is to get some software. There are lots of programs out there for programming the 780; and a serial cable is (relatively) cheap.... but, to do it the hard way.....

(I am doing this as I type it. I am going to use bank 7 (it is the only one empty in my scanner right now), but you cna use whatever bank you want.)

+ means to hold the key until you hear a double beep.

1. <3> <0> <1> <MAN>
2. 857.7625 <E> <TRUNK>+ <MAN>
3. 858.7625 <E> <TRUNK>+ <MAN>
4. 859.7625 <E> <TRUNK>+ <MAN>
5. 860.7625 <E> <TRUNK>+ <MAN>
6. 856.7625 <E> <TRUNK>+ <MAN>
7. 856.9375 <E> <TRUNK>+ <MAN>
8. 857.9375 <E> <TRUNK>+ <MAN>
9. 858.9375 <E> <TRUNK>+ <MAN>
10. 859.9375 <E> <TRUNK>+ <MAN>
11. 860.9375 <E> <TRUNK>+ <MAN>

When you press the TRUNK key until you hear the double beep, you should see a "M" light up right above the frequency.

This programs the system into the scanner so that you can trunk-track it.

You should now be able to press <TRUNK> <SCAN> <SEARCH> to hear trunked conversations.

There are more advanced features that can be programmed in using the SYSTEM menu, but this should at least get the system trunkable.

Once you've done that, (and are in TRUNK mode -- with a TRUNK lit up in the top line of the display), you can program talkgroups in almost as easily...

1. <MAN> <1> <1> <MAN>
2. 16 <E> <MAN>
3. 48 <E> <MAN>

YOu can assign the alpha-tags by going into the system menu.
