I've noticed occasional questions on this topic here (not often, but enough to warrant some action). I understand that the 898's manual is extremely poor (must have had the same editors as the ones that later wrote the DMA scanners' manuals 
)
There's a topic begging for a wiki article to straighten things out. Any 898 experts out there willing to take the plunge?
We can help with formatting, wiki language tricks and other things. I'm willing to bet other 898 owners would thank you. Is there something in the 898 Yahoo group that can act as a start?
