• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi everyone, decided to lump 2 questions into one...

I have found myself collecting radio IDs constantly now since the G4 displays them so nice and clearly. I update a spreadsheet and program them to the G4 fairly frequently, which requires a reprogram each time I update the Members List. Is there any issue with frequently reflashing the G4? Just slightly paranoid of any kind of corruption or issues down the road doing it fairly often.

Also curious what people have done for vehicle mounting. Has anyone mounted the amplified charger up in a vehicle? Would love to see it.

Hope the question doesn't seem too silly, but I am paranoid of doing anything wrong with a fairly expensive purchase. (The best purchase I've made for monitoring though, I love this thing).

Thank you

For the first question, my answer is to make sure you export your codeplug to your hard drive or a flash / jump drive every once in a while or even every time you make changes and maybe date the file or whatever so you know it is the latest one. If yours ever gets corrupted, just load the last one back in over the top. Should be good to go.
The second question I can't help.
I use mine home or strictly portable in the car.

Thanks! I definitely do need to export it just in case, likely to Google Drive. The spreadsheet definitely helps save the IDs too.

I was slightly more wondering about the actual impact on the G4 itself, by frequently reflashing it, if there was any problems doing it often (Wear down memory? Though I know flash is quite resilient and shouldn't be a problem itself).

Not a great idea, IMO - discussions generally should focus on one topic.

I don't actually know what's used for non-volatile storage inside the Gx pagers, but I've never heard of a failure being attributed to writing too many times. I suppose it's possible, but it's not a common issue, AFAIK.

It's been suggested, but I don't know if anyone's done it.

Thank you - and apologies for the 2 questions in one thread. Didn't want to seem like I was spamming questions that were likely fairly straight forward, but I do understand.
