Hello everyone I've been doing some research and I want to find out if what I'm thinking is right. On the PSR-500 say I'm trying to enter "X" system and I'm wanting to to seperate the Police and Fire talkgroups on this system, I will have to put Police in scanlist 1 and fire in scanlist 2. I can't put them both under scanlist 1 and cut one or the other off. Is this right? Also this would be a Motorola trunked system.

"have to" is perhaps overly strong.

Depending on the specific setup for the jurisdiction(s) you want to monitor, you might even get fancier than that. For example, you might find it very boring after a while to listen to all the license/registration checks done during routine traffic stops, and not want to miss 'real' action when those are occurring. In some cities there are separate talkgroups for police records vs. police dispatch, so you might consider putting the 'records' talkgroup in a separate scanlist that is not normally enabled. You might also consider a separate scanlist for medical traffic if appropriate for your area.

Alternatively, you could use the temporary lockout features so that certain talkgroups are enabled by default, but you can quickly lock them out (until power comes on the next time) if they get annoyingly busy with uninteresting traffic.

In addition to scanlists, the vscanner folders, priority and favorites features give you several other ways to organize and filter things.

There really is no one right way to set things up. A lot is just a matter of personal preference, influenced somewhat by the amount of radio traffic and the granularity of talkgroups available in your area.
