• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

    Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity.     If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

    The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Programming TK-790 with KPG-44DK on Windows 7

Has anyone been able to program TK-790s using windows 7? I have the KPG-44DK software and the cable. I am using a USB to Serial adapter that works with KPG-89D and the programming cable that I have works to read 790s under Win98. In summary, all the equipment I am trying to use has worked independently, but I can't get it to work together on the 790.

The closest I have gotten is for the radio to display PC, followed shortly by a communication error from the computer. I have tried running KPG-44DK under WIn98 and XP compatibility modes to no avail. Any ideas on other settings that could be changed to get this to work?

try turning the radio off then on after the error code and see what happens i have the same 44d and use usb to serial cable as well and have win7 32 bit also you might have to change your com port because the 90 series only has com 1-4 and most usb show up much higher com port. It sounds like you have the correct com port selected

I'm running Win7 on a laptop that has a real serial port. KPG-44D reads/writes both of my TK-790s with no issues.
