I am trying to figure out how to program a group of TGID's under one frequency.

I live in Madison, WI, and the city uses the same frequency for both fire and PD (along with about 40 other talk groups).

I would like to create one group for the FD talk group ID's and another for the PD talk groups. I have created a site for both, and each requires the frequency to be entered, and I have done so. I have them entered the sets of talk group ID's for each and set each group to "ID SCAN" so that it is supposed to pick up ONLy the group ID;'s that I have entered.

Problem is that this doesnt work. Each group does correctly ID the groups that I have entered under it (by label name that I created), but they also pick up the groups that arent supposed to be in there.

For example...The FD talk group has DISPATCH and FIRE GROUND talk groups labeled, the PD has EAST and WEST talk groups. If someone talks on the WEST channel, it will show up as "WEST" on my scanner under the PD System, but if I hit scan, it will show up by Group ID number (no label) under the FD System.

Even more frustrating is when some yahoo from a municipal group talks on a channel that is unassociated with either, it shows up under both systems!

What am I missing here?????

(by the way, this is all being entered on Freescan, so if there is a setting there that I am missing, I'd appreciate the help...and as I noted before, each System IS set to ID scan, not ID search.)

Thanks for the help....Jim

Jim,
Without seeing your FreeScan file, I'm going to make a semi-educated guess, that I believe is correct.

It sounds like, when you say you have created two "sites", one for fire, and one for PD, what you have really done is created two separate systems. Am I correct? And, is this the system you are referring to?

You can do what you are trying to accomplish, either with two separate systems (which I think is what you have now), or with one system, the add individual groups for Fire & Police. You can have up to 20 groups, so you could split that even more, if desired.

Where I believe you are getting off track is under the system options, you're probably scanning in "ID Search" mode, instead of "ID Scan" mode. You change this setting on the first "page" you see when you click onto that system in FreeScan. The 'page' is titled "Trunked System Setup". This is also the same page you set the delay time desired (if any), and a few other options.

In "ID Search" mode, the scanner will stop on any talkgroup ID it receives, that is not locked out. That's why you're getting PD on FD, & vice versa, and the water department shows up on both! In ID Scan" mode, it will only receive & stop on those talkgroup ID's that you have entered in the system. So, if you have a system, labeled as "Fire", with only FD related ID's, scanning it in ID Scan mode will only get those ID's. If you have both PD & FD in the same system, but different groups, as long as you're scanning in ID Scan mode, you will only hear the ones that you have programmed.

hiegtx..... thanks for the reply. yes, the system you referred to is the one that I am trying to play with. And I am trying to separate the PD and FD into two separate systems so that I can easily turn each on/off from being included in my scan.

The point that you bring up regarding ID SCAN mode and ID SEARCH mode is somethign that I am aware of, and each system is currently set to ID SCAN as you suggested, but they are both still picking up ALL the TGID's.

This seems like it should be very simple to figure out and I dont understand why the ID SCAN setting is not working as it is supposed to.

Any other suggestions??

I think I might have figured this out...in listing all of my TGID's, I placed a couple "blank" spots in my list as dividers between some of the different categories within each system.

I think that each "blank" spot where I left the TGID number and name for that listing blank opened up that spot for any communication under the frequency I listed.

In removing those empty spots last night, it appears to have corrected my problem and now ONLY the PD TGID's are being heard on my PD system, and ONLY the FD TGID's are being heard on my FD system.

I never would have thought that an "unassigned" listing would have been "active" like it was, but I guess it was. Nice thing to know for future users.

Thanks for the help...now lets see hwo much further I can get in setting this up before I find my NEXT issue!
