Hi, I am trying to program the Charlottesville/Albemarle, VA 800 Mhz system in into a friend of mine's scanner. I have only programmed the control channel frequency and all of the talkgroups ID's into the scanner. However, even with these things programmed I am having garbled audio problems. I have two questions:
1. Do I have to program ALL of the frequencies listed for this system, INCLUDING the control channel? What will happen if I leave the control channel as the only frequency for this 800 Mhz system in the scanner?
2. I am wondering if it is because I have only programmed the control channel that the audio frequently sounds garbled. This system, to my knowledge is not encrypted with the exception of the P25.

FYI, I DO have the latest firmware version installed on the radio. Also, my friend lives within 5-10 miles of any given tower.
I also have a BC 796D that has the same 800 Mhz system programmed into it with ALL of the frequencies including the control channel channel into it and the talkgroups. I am not having any audio problems with my BC 796D and I also live within 5-10 miles of any given tower.

Any help? Comments? Suggestions?

Okay. Thank you very much for that information.

I have a question about my BC 796D. For that scanner with the same 800 Mhz system, I have all of the frequencies programmed into it including the control channel. It is working fine. However, when I program just the control channel in. It is recieving the system, but no talkgroups are becoming active. What could be wrong?

You probably need to set the 796 for control-channel only mode. It needs to be "told" to go into this mode. It's in the menu settings.

It's a Type II system, so don't program it as a P25 system.
