Hello, I purchased a used BC 895XLT off Ebay. I have no issue programming conventional frequencies, however, the trunking instructions are not clear in manual. To those familiar with this model, page 39 says that display will flash after two beeps, then when bank is selected, you supposedly can input frequency, in my case a 700 mhz, or 773.74375, as control channel, however it will not take this.. Manual is very hard to figure out. Anyone have advice?

I hope you didn't pay too much for it. It will still work for conventional. Unfortunately, it won't even handle many of the Motorola type I & II systems it was designed for since the rebanding of 800MHz took place.

Plus 770Mhz trunking was not around back when the 895 came out. That is why you can't add the frequency you want.

@Markwed I assume you're trying to bring in CLMRN?

An 895XLT won't work for the following reasons:
  • No P25 support at all (Phase-I nor II)
  • No 700mhz band support, reference wiki link in post #2 for frequency coverage
You'll need a P25 Phase-II (TDMA) capable receiver, preferably a Uniden SDS100 or SDS200 to overcome potential simulcast distortion you may face if you're within listening range to two or more towers on the simulcast. Additionally all talkgroups on the system ID'ed as mode "TE" are fully encrypted and cannot be tracked by any receiver.

The 895XLT is an excellent performer, particularly on VHF-hi and UHF. I have found mine does very well on VHF airband also. It's still very useful as a 2nd scanner should you decide to purchase a new SDS100/200 for the simulcast system you want to monitor.
