Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Ok, after figuring out how to adapt my Motorola ribless cable to work with the Vertex VX-3000, I am now, once again, scratching my head...and it's not so much as it is programming the frequencies in as it is getting access to them once I'm done. I guess I was naive in thinking that like the GM300, this radio would access each programmed frequency just by scrolling the up and down buttons right off the bat... and I'm not even sure if these radios are capable of working like that but I could be wrong. I'm certainly no stranger when it comes to doing this sort of thing, as I am an amateur radio operator and have programmed four or five dozen mobile transceivers for my local Ares, Emergency Management group but they were mostly of the Motorola persuasion. Luckily, our group acquired several dozen of these radios after the narrow banding mandate, which was more due to my county's decision to switch over to digital MPSCS. I know by now it's impossible to make a long story short, so I will get to the point, the radio that I'm currently working on is a 48 channel VHF model, which has 4 operable channel groups of 12, I want to leave groups 0 and 1 in tact because some of the frequencies are still in use...and program groups 2 and 3 but after I download them to the radio, I can only access the "Switch on channel group" and none of the other groups. I've tried every combination of user and dealer settings that are available to me, I think? Below are some screen-shots of the program, so if you know of a clear and concise way to get these radios to access all the channels by merely using the up and down buttons, please let me know.

Thanks,
Jack

I used to own a VX-3000. If I remember correctly, one of the front panel buttons needs to be programmed as a GROUP(ZONE) UP/DOWN button and another needs to be programmed as a CHANNEL UP/DOWN button in order to move between groups. You'll probably also need a button programmed for scan function.

Check your front panel button programming. The HELP menu may also be useful.

I just bought one of these radios from a friend it's supposed to be here in a few days, but I was wondering did you have to use your Motorola rib box or did you just modify the Motorola cable to work I'm just trying to think of what I need to do to program mine now? I was thinking of just buying a cable off of eBay
