Hello,

I had radio shack program my pro 162 with scan lite. They programmed a couple of banks with sacramento and yolo county CA). Since then, I have bought arc 160, the cable and think I have download the drivers correctly. I think I have downloaded the stuff i want for a trunked system into the arc, it shows the transfer going over to the scanner. I have turned off all the banks with the exception of bank 0, but the scanner is still scanning all the stuff in bank 0 that radio shack put in. So, my question is will the arc leave the other stuff in the bank, do I have to clear the bank on the scanner prior to putting the stuff from the arc program on, or are my drivers not installed properly? Any help would be greatly appreciated....

Hey, Kiteman. I've had my 162 for a few months now and love it. I tried the ARC-160 and didn't like some of the features, so I never registered it. I've ended up programming the scanner by hand, which took some time, but I've learned a lot. It was recommended to me to put Sac County in one bank (fire, sheriff, ect), but I broke it up (fire in one bank and LE in another) the way you are attempting. A couple of questions; is the trunked bank you are mentioning (0) running in closed mode? After you uploaded from the software, does the scanner have a bunch of the unwanted talkgroups still there in bank #0? It's a place to begin, anyway.

Hello,
... do I have to clear the bank on the scanner prior to putting the stuff from the arc program ... QUOTE]

No, it will overwrite what's in the bank.
When you get the "Upload to scanner" window are all the banks you want checked? are Frequencies checked? etc.?

Programming Cable Install Help?

I picked up the USB cable from RS and I'm not sure if it got installed correctly on my Windows XP. Could somebody help walk me thru the installation in language that a non-wonk can follow?. I've got my RS Pro-162 radio, the programming cable driver CD disk and the cable with a little pig tail extension here. I put in the disc, then plugged the USB into the tower and , well, I got lost in the directives language. Excuse my computer illiteracy-- I sure could use a heads up.
Thanks, Jack

I tried ARC160 and was not to impressed when it was first released. Ended up programming my Pro-160 by hand, and learned alot. Still on the fence on buying ARC160. Maybe it has improved from it's first release. I just don't have another computer to try the current demo on. I own several version of ARC for other scanners I have. Those versions are very functional and am happy with them.

Xeno- unable to DL either program due to extraneous issues but thanks anyhow. I haven't yet put on a scanner programming system-- it looks like the ARC 160 seems to be the friendliest for the 162, eh?
So I figure I'll put that on, get the RR subscription up and running and then see how the device is wanting to work from there. Make sense?
