I have been told that Progress is going to switch from their tried and true UHF system to a 800 or 900 MHz trunked system. Any one heard this? I know they are using MDT's on the trucks now (according to the date base on this site they have a 900 MHz channel which I "assume" is on this freq).

I am assuming it is true, also. I have looked on the FCC website and they have numerous 800 or 900 freqs (I can't remember right this second) listed, with tower listings for my hometown, so I will continue to monitor those freqs, and let you know if i get anything!

Progress Energy has a 900Mhz Moto System they use here in Wake County...I have some info about it on my website (http://trunked.nctrafficman.net)....here is what I have on that system:

Freqs:
939.250Mhz-935.250Mhz, 936.750Mhz, 935.750Mhz, 935.4875.
Callsign: WPHI976

Talkgroup Use
16 Unknown Use

This is what I have found for Progress Energy. The control CH is 938.9875
(today at least). I tried the freq. Marshall has listed but none were the control CH. You will know its Progress Energy you are hearing if they use "singal 7" in place for "10-4". Hope this helps and please let me know if anyone has the talkgroups. I may be able to get a list from my dad who is retired from CP&L.

Keep in mind Progress Energy has numerous radio sites using 900 MHz frequencies, and each site uses a different set of frequencies and control channel.

Take a look at all the Progress Energy licenses for N.C. to determine which site(s) provides the best radio coverage for the service area you want to monitor.

The same is true for Bell South, Duke Power and other utilities who operate wide-area trunked radio systems on 800 or 900 MHz.

The Progress Eng Freqs listed abovew are correct. I have tried them for the last week in pocket scanner. There is power type traffic on it with the famous "Signal 7" used alot.

Will list talk groups when I figure them out . The stuff in the Goldsboro area seems to be all Type 2.

Have been montoring this system as promised. Here is what I have found.


34576 Wallace Service ? (NC)
32912 line crews not sure where
00816 Rail Road traffic (coal train for the Lee Steam Plant near Goldsboro, NC ?)
33168 Relay techs not sure where they were working
32912 Goldsboro Service? The address given sound like Goldsboro-Wayne County area
33136 kinston Service (Confirmed sent to a address in Kinston, NC)

also found a new CTL channel 939.4875 This is where the 32912 and 33136 came form.

Will send these along to be posted on the data base.

I updated the Progress Energy System in the radioreference database with the talkgroups that were specified in this forum (all that weren't identified as "unidentified," which we don't list in the database).

However, we only have one submission thus far for sites and frequency information. Remember, this system spans many counties across two states.

If you have an active Progress Energy site in your area, please submit all the frequencies in use (control channel and voice channels) along with a location description for us to add to the database. If you can add a Callsign, all the better. If you have the ability to run a version of trunker, and can identify an alternate control channel, cell number, connect tone, etc. that would be ideal.
