I have had a bearcat scanner for years. Recently the newport police went to a digital system state wide . I was going toby a digital scanner but was wondering where i could get the frequencies for the new sysytem I am not technical but believe i could set the freq if it is possible on a digital sccanner. There are several on the market and i have down loaded the manuals in a pdf file. I do not find a way to set the requencies. Is there a list which breaks down the newport police talk group. there are tables with DEC 1300 to 1308 and Hex 514 to 51c how does this convert to freq. in the mode area if all are E meaning encrypted I believe I will never be able to receive them. Any help would be apprediated

I live in Newport and I just purchased a Radioshack Pro-106. I got it on sale for 299.99. I am taking the steps now to learn to program it but from what I've read and experienced it is quite a scanner!

The best way to program a digital scanner is with software. Win500 is a good one. There is more info on the RI digital system on www.scannewengland.net . Jim, if you look under "database" on this site and point to RI and go to RISCON you will find the frequincies and talkgroups. The Pro-106 is one of the better digital scanners on the market.

frequencies

I went to database and RI and got to the RISCON. For the newport police I see a table with headers
DEC /HEX /MODE/ ALPHA Tag/desc/tag. Is there some code or info I missed. I was told the NPD was going to digital 900mz system. Is there some thing in the dec or hex dec system that relates to freq?

Jim,
This system is a lot different then the old days. It's a trunked system with cities and towns having Talkgroups. What you need is the South zone control channel which is 868.8750 then you enter the Talkgroup 1300 which is Newport PD.
