what format is a data file saved for a BCD996P2 using proscan? A friend wants to save the file from the scanner on his computer. Is it a text file?

Yeah, it's just a text file, but what the formatting MEANS in the file its self I can only guess. I have edited the database text file by hand though using Notepad++, but careful to keep the formatting in place.

The 3 letters at the beginning of the lines are the protocol commands such as SIN, TRN, GIN, SIF, CIN, TFQ, TIN

Just lookup the Uniden BCD996P2 protocol.
