It should still be on the same subnet as the rest of the computers inside the house, e.g. 192.168.x.x. Everything on the internal side of the router should be the same, either 10.x.x.x or 192.168.x.x. You shouldn't have a mixture of both.

Has anyone heard of a double NAT issue? This what Netgear is suggesting.

My network has a box on the outside that is connected to my router via a cat6 cable.

Do you have a 2nd router somewhere?

I think I have the same setup. The box is called a ONT(Optical Network Terminal). It doesn't do any routing. It's just an interface to the Ethernet & TV. My ISP is Frontier.

No, I do not have a second router. Yes, I have the ONT box. Netgear is saying that this is causing the issue... GVTC is confused...

It is up to date. I again called GVTC and discussed everything with them that was dicussed here and with Netgear... basically they said the only way I can do it it with a static IP. I asked them "why is it that nobody else that does the same thing I am wanting to do, needs a static IP" his response was "It depends on the ISP"

My particular setup (with a modem and a router ) is this.
*Modem in bridged mode .
*Static IP on server comp.
*Port forwarded in router from static IP.

It seems like your modem and router are fighting each other for DHCP control.

I have a static external IP. ( But any number of ways to keep that updated if it wasn't.)
My system works fine Lan or Wan.

I am a Firefighter I make the same as EMT's where I live. The best advice I can give you is to go to your local library and start learning networking.
The company you work for has an IT guy hit him up someone that knows what they are doing should not be there 30 minutes and gone around here that is less than $50.

Sounds like the ONT is working as a router and handing a 10.x.x.x IP address to the Netgear router which hands out 172.x.x.x addresses.

If that's the case, you'll need to put the ONT into bridge mode.

Hmmm. Possible. But my theory is that the ISP is using RFC 1918 IPs on their "local" network then doing hide NAT on the border between their network and the rest of the Internet. That's why the OP is being told he needs [to pay for] a static IP.

My ISP doesn't support bridge mode so they won't do it for you. Easier to provide support for their router than a customer purchased router.

I just log into it and do it myself.

KC9KOA1, Can you post the model # of your ONT?
Mine is "I-211M-L" I did a google search and it's a pass-through type that doesn't do routing and it's not even configurable. Just want to see if yours does routing so we can focus or eliminate that area.
