• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

EDACS was EOL (End of Life) in 2017, meaning it is no longer supported by Harris. ProVoice is the EDACS digital voice codec, and so yes, technically it is EOL as well. That doesn't mean that systems won't continue to run on EDACS/ProVoice for years as long as they are still functional.

Lots of EDACS systems still in use. PAPD was EDACS until recently when they switched to Phase 2.

How much could Whistler Tech Support possibly know about a voice codec their scanners can't decode? Though as stated above me the protocol has been EOL'ed years ago, I'd take any news from Whistler with regards to Provoice with a grain of salt. With only 40 identified TRS's in the database it was never the most popular codec anyway

No surprise there, when EDACS went under the bus, I figured provoice would soon follow.
What I have been reading, the new kid on the block is OFDM(not new by a long shot) and the newer LTR.
Like the past 50 years, Motorola has been lead dog so Ericsson/Tyson have to get up to speed, or doomed.

TDMA and LTR are NOT the same thing

And Ericsson or Tyco (or M/A-Com) haven't been in the picture for quite a few years now, so there's really not a lot of getting up to speed they can do.

DO NOT ASK ME FOR HELP PROGRAMMING YOUR RADIO. NO.
Since ProVoice is for use in an EDACS system, and EDACS is obsolete, why would you be surprised to find that a feature that only works on an obsolete legacy system is no longer available? Demand for provisioning ProVoice in the existing or new radio fleet is pretty much dead zero at this point. Even those agencies that still use EDACS (and I'm in the coverage area of one or more....) don't even use ProVoice anymore in those systems. For the minimal effort involved (and actually, simpler radio programming and higher reliability) they encrypt talkgroups they want to protect instead, in almost every case.

I've seen examples of ProVoice radios that worked properly in ProVoice one day and the very next day certain radios no longer received ProVoice transmissions while others did. That doesn't seem to happen when using encryption instead.

You are aware that the digital modulation used on EDACS systems is ProVoice, including SLERS, yes? And that ProVoice talkgroups can be either clear or encrypted? The SLERS system, right in your own backyard, uses ProVoice digital modulation, which is also encrypted for most talkgroups. It's not ProVoice or encryption, it's ProVoice with encryption. Your post makes it sound as if they dumped ProVoice and went with "Encryption" instead, almost as if "Encryption" is some form of alternative standalone modulation. Perhaps you just worded your post oddly, as surely you know all of this already.
