Can anyone enlighten me as to the specifics of an EDACS ProVoice system. I hear Spotsy Co. is upgading their system in the near future and am wondering if I'll be able to monitor it with my Pro-96. If not, is it possible that RS would provide another upgrade so we will be able to monitor it with the Pro-96.

Thank you.

Unfortunately at this time there are no commercial scanners available to the general public that are capable of monitoring an system that is utilizing an ProVoice Digital signal.
From repeated discussion on the board this technology has some copyright laws and such associated with it.

This has been hashed a couple hundred times in the Texas boards, for the San Antonio area. Read up on some of the posts in that board from the past year, and the "sticky" it might help you see what you should expect to be dealing with.

Hope this info helps.

Spotsylvania County and Provoice

I researched this via Internet resources, and found several public budget documents.

$95,000 has been approved for FY 2005 to upgrade approximately 264 Sheriff Department radios, 10 Fire Department radios, and 2 general government radios. It seems that the county upgraded the dispatch consol and other system aspects to Provoice in the past, and the radio upgrades is a continuing action.

The question is whether everything will be on Provoice all the time. I tend to think that there will still be open communications, more so with the fire department, because of the smaller number of radios being upgraded, and the fact that the department is largely volunteer. It is also possible that the Provoice will be more directed to sensitive information transmissions versus general. We will have to wait and see.
