Hey folks: I've been scanning for years, but I'm relatively new to this dsd+ stuff.
I recently purchased a psr-800, love the radio...But I have yet to get anywhere with decoding the unenc ProVoice stuff on my local edacs system.
I have tried putting in all the freques in lcn order as I would when adding a new system, then adding the talkgroups I know are provoice but not encrypted...Nothing besides a bunch of random analog sounds like it's scanning all the freques and just landing on any analog . Then I just tried adding the active control-channel along with said tg's...still nothing. All I get is the cc noise...But no voice comms.
I do have the headphone selected under audio out in the software and the volume set to 100...I'm using a good quality audio cable to go from the radio in to my sound card.
I should also note: I'm partially blind so rely on screen-reading software for the computer...Any pictures/diagrams online are useless to me.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
-Johnny

So Far Away....
Im not sure if the 800 has a true Discriminator output Via the headphone jack..

With the intro of Cheap RTL-SDR dongles many have forgone the woe's of using
radios that are tapped to access the pre-filtered audio needed to run programs like
DSD+.

Id suggest trying the program SDR-Sharp and a Virtual Audio Cable with DSD+,
I know learning the in's and out's of a new method is,and can be torturous..But its
very worth it!

Yes, I believe it's the only radio on the market that has a true tap...The HP's might, but I"m not sure on that. I know as fact this one does.

I have run DSD+ successfully decoding P25, NXDN, and DMR using an RTL dongle/SDRSharp combo and using discriminator output from a BCD996XT that I tapped, and from my Whistler 1080, which has discriminator/IF output. I believe the PSR-800 also has that feature. If you run the discriminator/IF from the earphone jack, you will hear no audio. You can't do both at the same time with my 1080. I decode the P25 not because my scanners cannot, but as a check to make sure I have a good working set-up. Then go to NXDN or DMR. Have not used ProVoice, but imagine it would be similar.
I just ran a stereo jumper cable from the 1080 (set to IF output to headphone) headphone jack to "line in" on my Dell computer (Windows 7). For RTL/SDRSharp combo, you need a virtual cable like VB-Audio. With discriminator output from my 996XT or 1080, you do not. Just run right into the "line in" jack of your computer.
What I like about using the scanners, as opposed to RTL/SDRSharp combo, is that you have the scanning/trunking features of your scanner right there. Your only concern is getting the discriminator output to your computer.
I quite often use my 1080s IF output to monitor NXDN railroad/business and DMR TRBO here in Los Angeles. Works fairly well with DSD+ Good luck with your set up.

Yes, the 800 is identical to the 1080...Pretty much the same radio, just re-branded.
Maybe I'm not understanding this. Is the decoded audio not supposed to be passed through the computer? Otherwise what would the purpose be if one cannot hear said decoded audio?
Thanks again.
