Is it totally confirmed yet that the new King and Snohomish county systems will be unlistenable?

I’m enjoying listening to both systems now and am considering a new purchase to monitor… but the money won’t be spent if we’re only hearing digital hash in the near future.

I know, elsewhere in this board, it has been said that encryption is coming. If that’s true… does anyone know when.

It simply breaks down to the fact I’ll really miss enjoying these systems if they go dark for us radio nerds.

Thanks!

When PSERN (King Co's new P25 II system) went live, I expected it soon after it was determined to be stable.
So far, it has not.... but could be any day.

So, no one know (or is saying) when, but it's probably inevitable.

Had to buy some interop radios with encryption capability for some county agreements, and in discussion it will be Over-The-Air-Rekey (OTAR) as well. So, we did not have to purchase a KVL (Key Variable Loader) in this case. But, as mentioned above, radio are not encrypted yet, and no time frame given. Might even be after Snohomish County turns on their P25 Phase 2 system as well?

I just noticed I haven't gotten any tac channel recordings on SPD Tac N in months. Anyone else? Maybe they set the tac channels to encrypted and we just didn't notice?

I have been told by a FD Agency Chief who is on the PSERN board that encryption for the South King County agencies (Valleycom) will be going live when PSERN pushes out the next update to the agencies. As I have seen mentioned in other forms I believe the plan is for PD to be encrypted, and fire will remain in the clear with the exception of a couple FD channels which will remain encrypted for training and/or special use. As stated above I can only vouch for Valleycom agencies, I have no idea on the rest of the county. Timeline is before EOY.

My snoco SERS went dark a week or so ago. Looks like they went to P25 and encrypt? Does anybody have any info?

There was an article in one of the local Snohomish newspapers a week or two ago, about the recent changeover to encrypted now that their system is complete and live. Long story short taxpayers paid the bill to a tune of 72 million and now they are only leaving fire open for the time being according to what I read. Basically a big pat on their backs for getting it built and rolled out while never mentioning to taxpayers they had planned for it to be encrypted all along.

Yeah I expected this, just pretty disappointed. We all knew it was coming -- Need to check and see if WSP went the same way. Not hearing much. Of course, the police hate having all their comms available on the internet. Kinda makes it hard to sneak up on people. RR database still shows it unencrypted but who knows, maybe behind the times... Oh wow we can still listen to ATC

Negative, State is still open. I've talked to a lot of officers in the last couple days, some say they like it, while others say they don't. A few officers mention that there is a "delay". Hmmm sounds like a different form of officer safety to me.

You say RR Database still shows LE unencrypted? I believe your looking at the old SERS System, the new SNO911 P25 database does not even list any LE.

This isn't a hate Law enforcement post , but its just the bottom line truth. I hate to break the news to you all, but law enforcement doesn't not care about the public taxpayers or care about transparency. Only time law enforcement cares about the public taxpayer's is when they are crying for money to pass bond to fund something. They never had plans to let public, ie the taxpayer know they were switching to "E" , because they don't have to disclose that info anyway. Just remember when they come asking for money again, be sure you know what it for and why they need it, ask question's.

That was actually funny. I think Ray did get arrested just so he could ask questions about the encryption. What a dedicated fella! :geek:
Yeah no...You both are completely wrong. For one, I just like to engage in conversation. 2, I havn't been arrested for anything radio or crap like this...yes I have a past, but unrelated
