I've looked through the PSR-300 thread and the Wiki, but I'm curious how everyone likes their PSR-300's so far.

How is the audio from the unit? Is it loud enough to be heard over road noise while driving? When inside can you hear it from across the room without a problem?

Also, I have some towers nearby that can overload a poor receiver. Can anyone comment on how the scanner performs in RF areas like this?

Mostly I'll be monitoring VHF and UHF (no digital, just analog) along with civilian air and LTR. Does the 300 have the same repeater mapping that the Pro-97 had on LTR?

Last but not least, how is battery life on rechargeables vs. alkalines?

Any other comments greatly appreciated. For the most part I have been a Uniden and Icom user, but have a RS Pro-2054 right now I am looking to replace. Thanks in advance!

I like it more than I did the PRO-97. I'm using it for spectrum sweeper alot. Now that Don has modified Win97 to work with it, even better. The signal meter is a great addition too. I'm glad GRE decided to add the AAR (railroad) service search too. What you could do is try a PRO-164 at Radio Shack and see how well it does for your tower problem, it's the same as the 300.

Battery life is ~10 hours with backlight and medium voulme on NiMIH.

The audio is about the same as the PRO-97 good in the home, but needs an audio boost for mobile use.

Yes, it has the same home repeater mapping for LTR as found on the 97.
