I have a PSR400 that works great on the supplied telescoping whip. When I hook it up to my Diamond discone with LMR400 coax I caanot hear a thing unless I activate the ATT on every channel. Then with the signals attenuated the reception suffers also. Any ideas on how to get the PSR400 to work properly on my external antenna? My BC796D works great on the discone.

Notch Filter

The GRE radios suffer greatly from overload. The subject's been beaten to death on this site. Install a notch filter to block out the offending signal. I have had great success. Use the search engine at the top of the page to find all the past posts on GRE overload and notch filters. There's alot of good info on this site.

What frequencies are giving you problems? VHF is usually the worst on the 400 and the notch filter or a general FM trap filter may work for VHF. I have not had any problems on UHF frequencies with overload, but I 'm not in the urban high rf environment you are.

Or you can get a variable attenuator and see if you can adjust the amount of attenuation to a satisfactory compromise.

Thanks to everyone for the replies. Dave, the VHF hi frequencies are affected the most. 800 MHZ is affected somewhat and UHF frequencies are received with no apparent interference or desensing. I have a notch filter on order and hope that it works. Thanks again for your help.

Hello to all again. My HP-30118 notch filter arrived today from Scannermaster. I am happy to report that it did the trick. My PSR400 now works very well on the Diamond Discone. My BCT15 and BCD996T are also receiving better with much less noise. Thanks again to all who gave me advice. I appreciate it very much.
