Is there anyway to increase or change the display time of the talkgroup number? At present, I only see it after a transmission, during the delay time. I'm not referring to the alpha description, but the actual talkgroup number itself which appears only momentarily on the 2nd line of the display. It'd be great to somehow have it displayed during the entire transmission.

Include it with the Alpha tag. Example: FD DISP. 12345

I agree. I would much rather see the TGID than the frequency. Maybe this is an option for a future firmware upgrade. At least give us the option to show one or the other.

As far as I know, the whole point of an alpha tag is to display something "familiar" instead of a numeric talkgroup ID. That is, "we" don't really care about the numeric ID value once we know it's used by, for example, "Police Dispatch".

What would be the reason for showing the numeric ID value if you've already associated it with an human-readable text string?

Don, that is a completely reasonable question and I, for one, cannot give you a completely reasonable answer, but I agree with the original post in this thread in that I would much rather see the TGID than the voice frequency being used, or at least have it displayed longer than the fraction of a second that it is displayed now.

Well, there's the prerequisite... We should probably come up with a "reasonable answer" before GRE can be expected to change it :)

Showing the VC frequency, at least, has a definite usefulness... it's a value that is NOT programmed by the user and which can be used to "map out" a system (e.g. figuring out what frequencies are used by the system, debugging "badly programmed bandplans", etc.).

The numeric TGID, though, has already been programmed by the user... he knows it, and he explicitly assigned an alpha tag to it. If he wanted the numeric ID, he would've (I'd guess) included it in the alpha tag.

Personally, I can't really think of a good reason to show that numeric ID value once the user has already explicitly programmed a "replacement" alpha tag.

It's not a big deal. Like arguing which came first, the chicken or the egg. It boils down to a matter of preferences. I and at least one other person can see a reason for it and I'm sure there are others that do, too. On the other hand, there are probably just as many, possibly more, that don't need or want it.

I like knowing the TG # as it helps in finding errors with my alpha text tags. It's also handy when alerting friends of activity, as our text tags are often not the same.

The fourth line of the display would be ideal, as it now displays TSYS and the Object number, which is of no use to me.

My "reasonable answer" and "good reason" is that I, as an avid scanner buff for many years, would like to see it.

I like to program the alpha tag with the actual system name for the TG along with my own description. If I try to include the TG number too, there's not enough character spaces in the alpha tag field to suit my needs.

I'm not asking to eliminate showing the VC frequency, maybe just an option that would allow me to mask that and display the TG numerical ID. Or, have it displayed on the 4th line of the display.

It's all about choices, right?

I agree with this person :)

If the Object ID is needed by some, maybe they could just swap locations of the Object ID, and the TG ID, and make the TG ID display for a longer period of time?
