Can't find it in the manual.....On an EDACS trunked system, does the PSR-500 and/or 600 display the LID number of the subscriber unit transmitting ?

Same question on Motorola systems...does it display the UID?

Well as I read it in the manual, it has an I-call feature that should display the individual unit IDs, but nothing is mentioned about individual radio IDs during regular talkgroup scanning.

The firmware is upgradeable. Maybe if enough people that wanted that feature were to request it, it could be done. I too would like that feature and an MDC-1200 decode with the ability to alpha tag it.

I would think it means the scanner won't try to decode ANY kind of subaudible codes being received on the frequency.

I guess that translates to ... there is no way to lockout unwanted CTCSS or DCS subaudible tone transmissions? Darn! :( Not having a CTCSS or DCS lockout isn't going to be a deal breaker for purchasing the PSR-500 but it sure would be nice to have that feature. It really comes in handy on my BCD396T.

One thing you could try would be to create a conventional object with the frequency and tone you want locked out and then lock out that object. Then create another conventional object with just the frequency.(hopefully the scanner won't look at that as a dupe entry)

I don't know the order of precedence the radio would take when looking at those objects but maybe it'll bypass the locked out tone.

Favorites Scan List

I've been chatting a bit with Jeff from Ham Station since he's been using his dealer sample PSR-500 for about three weeks now and I haven't been able to get down to Evansville from Indy to try out the radio yet. One of the things we've talked about that seems really cool but isn't getting much attention here is the Favorites scan list. FAV is described on pp. 54 and 55 of the manual. It's so easy to add, remove, and clear scannable objects to/from FAV without affecting their mapping to other scan lists--one-key access to scanning of this list only seems like one of the most practical and useful features of the radio. Anybody have any creative ideas for how to use this feature? I'm sure looking forward to getting my hands on the little beastie.

I can see using the favorites and linking some talkgroup and conventional objects for emergency situations. You could have the Fire VHF, EMS talkgroups, Local and State PD all together for a specal event. That would be cool.

It seems to me that one of the best applications for the FAV list is something that you want to be able to tune quickly to the exclusion of all else. Most of my ideas for it involve getting what some friends call a 'lips-moving confirm' on a freq or TG:

Say you're at some event and are searching for freqs. Your finds can go on the FAV list, allowing you to shut down your time-consuming search objects and double-check the finds if you see a radio in use.

Or you could have a certain combination of SRCH and SWPR objects that you want to instantly go to if you see a radio in use that you don't hear.

Or let's say you're at something in an area with heavy trunking, and you want to easily access a Wildcard object(s), but only when you see someone using a radio.

To me, the FAV list is for things that you want instantly to occupy the radio's attention to the exclusion of all else. The fact that you can tweak the list so easily and quickly is going to great at malls, airshows, sporting events, etc.

I have one on order with Jeff @ Ham Station and have printed the manual as im not good with using this computer on using a CD-Disk...It seems the GRE500 programs somewhat like the 396, but i see "scan-lists" but unless i missed it i do not see like "Groups=GQK's" like the 396...Also it looks like in the "Detailed Menu" here in ILL- Starcom would be programmed as "P25 Auto"....I had the RS PRO94 years back and it had like "10" FAV channels that when found searching could be saved in a special section, this will be a "GOOD" thing!!!!

i think it will be like the Pro96. Each V folder will be the group.....and will have 0 thru 9 as the banks but in this case will not be called a bank but those will be the scan lists.. The difference I THINK for V folders will be that instead of 0 thru 9 it will be 0 thru 20. At least that's the way I understand it. And the V folders will be the GROUPS.....Is that right?......

It's Tuesday Illinois time......2 days until Christmas. Ho-Ho-Ho!!!!!!!

It appears that the user can modify the master table which determines what step sizes are used within each band, but these are global settings.

Kind of annoying, IMHO, but perhaps better than nothing.

It's kind of the same with the BCD396T. For searches and Close Call, if you want to set a specific step size different from the default, it's global and applies across the board from there on.

Forget what you know about the Uniden dynamic memory. It looks like the GRE object oriented memory does not use groups or systems, but each frequency, talkgroup, sweeper, search limit, and SVC search is a memory block with different attributes. The V-scanners look to be the same as the PRO-96, independent of the object memory, with access through a similar method of keystrokes, only this time there are 21. So that would be 21 V-scanners with over 1,800 objects plus 37,800 , or 39,600 programmable object available total.

I just returned Glenn's call from Scanners Unlimited. The 500 ships Thursday AND Glenn will contact me with the tracking number. Once again I am shelling out $$$$ for a new item that will probably be outdone and dated within the next year or two BUT....I love the hobby and Glenn makes it very easy to go through the process. Once again, kudos to the vendors that do their best to meet our needs. And, of course Santa's Helpers at GRE...I didn't forget about you guys and gals!
