Good thing I wasn't that pessismistic this early about Uniden when for the second model in a row (296/396) their scanners wouldn't track our brand new P25 VHF system properly. Especially when I was the only one with this type of system and problem reporting it, so I didn't even have the "emotional backup" of other users reporting similar anomalies....

Very valid point. Was looking for a bigger bang on reception to overcome my DMA/size prejudices. Haven't seen it yet.

well what i dont get is, when i am getting good reception of the system and everything seems to be working fine.. comparing against the pro 96 i pick up the TGs generally well, except for the division 5 state police (TGs in the 49-60 range). it just has the hardest time even noticing these TGs are active. A TG in a different range comes on, and it pick it up decently. I know its not a lockout problem or anything, bc once in a blue moon it will flash a TG for that division and play audio, then after the transmission, back to the same problem.

It is a p25 vhf statewide system. This is the link http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=RR&sid=3783

I am using roam setting, so im only using one tower, supertrack on (using off doesnt work well for any TGs), p25 auto

its weird.

Second thing, I hook up the antenna on my truck and it has the hardest time picking up TGs on the local 800 mhz system dig moto type 2. (stock antenna works fine..aka 95% of the time) I guess perhaps im "overloading" the scanner, but im really not that close to any towers. I can usually see the "T" but it fails to notice many TGs. Attenuator helps some, but then it starts cutting out and machine gunning bc of lack of signal. pro96 and 396t all work fine with this antenna and system. located here -> http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=RR&sid=556

This is one prissy and temperamental scanner. I think it's a woman.

jk...

Rvawatch,
I would definitely agree that my monitoring is showing this radio to overload way to easily.
The front end gets buried very easily; so much so that I need to keep the attenuator on for the local TRS. Turn it off and the signal is very degraded.
This is in comparison to a 396, 330, BCT 15, 780 and even the PRO-97.

The fix for the p25 decode will be available on Nov. 13, 2007 via a download from the GRE America website. See the post Release thread for info.

I gpt it this afternoon from Grove. Check this link for availability. http://greamerica.com/support/ I doubt this will help our Chesapeake system.

Nice of Grove to notify their customers like that. Service after the sale is important.

I just Just registered on the Support page and will keep an eye out there.
Hear what your saying about our issue with the Chesapeake system too, but can't hurt to dream :)

mikeh,

Can you hear digital traffic if you enter one of the voice channels by using the tune button?

Is your radio unable to receive digital at all?

Mikeh,

For the San Mateo system, you will need to enter lo and hi channel values into the custom tables.

For table 1, the lo is 380 and the hi is 559 for the second table, the lo is 560 and the hi is 759.

If this had been a single table, the lo and hi would have been 380 and 759.

This should get you going. If it does, you may want to submit these values to have the data base updated.

I'm using my PSR-500 to track the San Mateo County system right now. It works perfectly. No firmware change is required.

For a little while (i.e until 10:00 PDT or so):
Windows Media Player... File -> Open URL...

EDIT: it's back up for a while. Scanning:
* City of Santa Clara, CA (800 MHz Mot 3600 system, analog voice)
* San Mateo County, CA (400 MHz Mot 3600 system, P25 voice)

No, I'm one county south, but I can hear San Mateo County just fine. I can sometimes get Marin County's system, as well. (Enabling the Marin scan list now... we'll see if it appears in the stream... yep, sounds fine)
