PSR-500 Key beeps no longer working?

Today my scanner stopped beeping when buttons are pressed. It's on in the menu. I reloaded the V-Scanner folder, power cycled, still no beeps, headphones, batteries or plugged in, all beepless. It's otherwise perfectly fine. Has anyone heard of this before?

Beeps are back. I took case apart and unplugged and re plugged the speaker wire. Batteries were out during this time, maybe that was enough to fix it.
