Hello.

As many people write--and as is the case in my situation--I've searched but can't find any obvious answers to my issue. If there is already a thread on this, I'd appreciate the link.

There is a Motorola Type II Smartnet system in my area. The scanner displays all or most of the signal bars, but the receive audio itself is low (even when cranked up). I do not have this problem with a local EDACS Standard system.

Could this low audio result from the way Moto system was installed? If there is a setting to change (in the expert settings), what setting would that be?

If this were an intermod issue, would that not affect reception in general?

Thanks,

Try enabling audio boost for some of the busier TGs and see if it makes a difference. Do you
have AGC enabled for that system?

Excellent advice, folks.

SIG-INT and GTO_04:

Thanks for the suggestions. The digital AGC was already set to "on", but the NFM and Audio Boost settings were both set to "off." There was a noticible improvement; now I just need to mix and match to see which setting did the job, or if it was having both settings "on."

Thanks for the help!

Every GRE digital I own has super volume, I would venture to say that most of the time I dont have the volume level set above a 1/4 turn at most.

The Low Volume

A friend of mine brought a new PSR-500 and the audio level was so low. She called GRE and sent the scanner back to them.

Hello, again.

The audio boost did the job very nicely. NFM was not the answer, in this particular case.
The only system that had the issue was the one trunked system, so I don't think this was a scanner repair issue.

Thanks again for the responses.

If the frequencies in the trunk system are licensed as narrow band then the deviation level is probably at 2.5khz level which is half of what the other non-narrow band system frequencies are at. This would account for the low audio level description above for just this system. Did anyone look up the fcc emission codes for these trunk system frequencies to check if the system is indeed been licensed as such?
