I want to buy either a psr500 or 396xt scanner. I live in a rural area however there is a cell phone tower near me. It is almost 1.8 miles away, is that far enough not to be a problem with the extra sensitivity of the psr500?? The 396xt is a great scanner but I do not want to give up the great audio of the larger speaker of the 500 and since I live in a rural area the extra range of the 500 would be nice also.
Thanks in advance for your help

Yes, you are far enough away. It is when you get within 1/4 mile that it becomes a problem...and only if 800 MHz is used at that site. Not all sites have 800.

Most cell towers never give my 500 or 600 any problem and those few that do are usually limited as stated by Sofa King above. I have one at 0.9 miles from my home and the only road out of my village requires passing by. My 2 Pro-197's have no problems at home nor do the 500/600 as I drive by.
