I'm monitoring the Indiana SAFE-T system which is a Motorola Type II SmartZone Omnilink system and Tippecanoe County Public Safety Motorola Type II SmartZone system. I have the global format set to "Native" and all normal talk groups show in decimal format but private calls show in hex format. I have a couple of questions:

1. Is there a way to get the private call ID to show as a decimal value instead of a hex value?

2. When 2 radios in the system are engaged in a private call do both radio IDs show on the same line at the same time like on the BCD396T? (As I understand it: when you see 1 radio ID on a BCD396T private call it is a radio talking to land line or cell phone, when you see 2 IDs it is a radio to radio private call.)

Thanks

Answer to number 2, only if both "radios" are using the same tower will you see both Id's, otherwise you'll only see the one. Not sure about telephone calls. Safe-T has limits on I-calls so you should not be seeing many.

Now about number 1, there is a setting that you can change, saw it in a thread last week, but don't remember which one.

To the best of my knowledge the 500 only supports hex for I-calls, but you can have decimal or hex for talkgroups. You can display the converted radio id to decimal using PSREdit, but only in the program, not in the radio. Also I don't believe it supports telephone interconnects.

I do NOT see both radio ID's on the PSR500 with EDACS or P25 systems.

And on EDACS I do NOT hear both sides.

Thanks for the information. This is one less thing that I have to worry about. Since I forgot to mention the actual system (Tippecanoe County) where I here the vast majority of private calls and in light of the information about SAFE-T, I have edited my post to include the Tippecanoe County system as well.

You're probably right about SAFE-T because I can probably count on one hand the number of times I've seen a private call on it since its inception. On the Tippecanoe County system I will see only 1 radio ID show up a lot. I know our county system does support telephone interconnects because I have a volunteer firefighter friend that I observed making a telephone call with his radio before. Of course this was a few years ago and I do believe they have clamped down a bit on private call use but it is still pretty common to see radio to radio and telephone interconnect private calls on our county system.

Rob, I see both radio ID's on MPSCS, even if the other radio is on a different tower. I'll have to pay closer attention to it though, because I try to save the radio ID when I catch it and when I do pause it will display the originator-->recieved radio ID's. I've only seen one or two EDACS Private calls, so I need more information to understand how well it works.

Private Calls

I think it depends on whether it's a private call between two radios or between a radio and a dispatch console. I have seen both ID's and only one on the MPSCS. I think the only time I have only seen one is when it was a dispatch console. Pay close attention next time and let me know if you agree.

The only I-Call I've heard both sides on was from dispatch to a unit, so Les your theory makes sense...
