Went to turn the scanner on this morning, knocked it off the desk when I tripped on the coax and now the squelch will not open and nothing will receive. Not getting the signal strength bars I normally get as soon as an antenna/rubber duck is connected. Can also hear a faint hissing sound that I don't think has always been there.

Tried resetting squelch in tune mode, could not get the static sound even with the knob all the way to the left.

Reset global parameters, still nothing.

Made sure it was not the attenuator, still nothing.

I've dropped it much harder than that before, hope I did not break it this time.

Thanks for any help!

The antenna connector could be damaged. Some of the early scanners had a ground screw which loosened on the antenna connector after a period of time. Removing the back cover is easy so that you can inspect that area near the connection.

THANK YOU!!!

Works now!

It did not take any intelligence on my part but I did as you suggested removing the cover, saw what looked like that ground area and being stupid and not knowing what else to do, blew on it, powered up the scanner and now it works. Put the cover back on and i'm done.
