You could also check the center pin contacts, on the BNC. GRE uses inferior female BNC connectors on their products, which tend to lose contact with the center pin, as they lose springiness. (If this is the problem, a temporary fix is to use a small tool, and gently flex the contacts back towards the center.)

There is hope ! Since my last post on the subject, the PSR 600 has operated flawlessly on the 800 system. I t was only taking about an hour for it to go deaf, but it ran all day yesterday and is running now with no problems. I never considered the center pin of the BNC, because no other frequency ranges other than 800 MHz showed degraded performance. I will check that....thank you.

Maybe the problem was in the county system and it has been fixed.
