Having owned a PSR-600, even though it was made by GRECOM, does the TRX-2 support roaming the same way the PSR-600 does? With the PSR you could enter a system and TGID and while mobile you can lock onto a TGID and the radio would follow the needed sites to maintain that lock as you move around the area. Will the TRX-2 do the same? I know the Uniden with GPS turns on and off sites as you have them set-up but if you lock on an ID at one site it will not hold that lock into the next site as the PSR would do.

The TRX-2 also supports roaming. You need to setup separate sites on the TRX-2 rather than loading all of the control channels into the frequency list for the system on the PSR-600. One thing the TRX-2 lacks is the ability to scan several sites at once. It will only use the site with the best signal. It does not have the Multi-Site Stationary option like on the PSR-600. If you wish to scan several sites at once, you need to setup separate systems with each one using a different site.

Early on, I tried to migrate from a PSR-500 to a TRX-1. The short answer is: it was a big mistake. I later sold the TRX, still use the PSR-500 and have added an SDS-100 to my arsenal. I found a ton of unpleasant issues with the TRX and wrote a review on it. While I recognize that we each have our own needs and have different listening environments, I couldn't make the TRX work for me.

I suspect the reason you want a TRX over a PSR is to get Phase II capability. Phase II means a trunked system. These days trunked systems are becoming more and more of the Simulcast type. That's yet another issue that the TRX simply was not designed to handle. Unfortunately, as I write this, the 2 SDS models are the only scanners that do handle Simulcast. Roaming and controlling site selection is just one more "little" thing. Good luck.

I went from a PSR-500 to a TRX-1. I agree with gmclam that the TRX-1 was "decontented" from the PSR-500 series - some of the useful features were removed. But, my PSR-500 didn't pick up Phase II and that is what new users on the local system are going to. I also didn't care for the interface of the SDS series.

When I put all the control channels into the site list of one scan list, I found I was missing a lot of traffic. Now, I put each site into its own scanlist and "manually roam" by selecting a new scanlist when I'm in range of a site.

That 'roaming' ability of the PSR500 & PSR600 scanners (as well as their related Whistler & RadioShack labeled versions) was very useful on systems where more than one site of a given system was in range. It was a disappointment that this did not carry over to subsequent models.

Has anyone tried setting the high and low thresholds to 99% to see if the newer Whistler scanners will scan multiple sites?
