With GRE out of business, and the PSR-800 the last in the GRE scanner line, and with it having several unique features, will the prices for used PSR-800's go sky high?

I see that it is already up to $500 on ebay (on average), and I have seen some asking much more ridiculous prices.Would these scanners not be great long-term investments no matter what? It seems that way.

The prices will not keep increasing forever. Eventually, either the buyers will refuse to pay higher and higher prices, or newer model scanners will make paying a premium for a PSR-800 a pointless decision.

That being said, I am glad that I bought my PSR-800 a couple months ago when I had the opportunity!

It all depends on what happens in the next 3 to 6 months. If Uniden comes out with a P25 Phase II scanner or if GRE starts making them again then the price for used 800s will plummet. But if it remains the only P25 Phase II scanner available then I wouldn't be surprised to see used ones selling for over $1000.00. If the price gets that high then I'll have to think long and hard about selling mine and doubling my investment in about 12 mos.

PSR 800's will always sprout on fleabay with overly inflated prices, and with a reasonable description and feedback then there will ALWAYS be poor unsuspecting saps that are more than willing to give their life savings for it, sad but true.
While the psr800 is a well sought after piece of gear, there is the honest question of how much it's really worth, and that answer will always vary with opinion. Personally, the P25 phase I feature is the only advantage keeping it alive and well.

You probably missed the boat. If you bought a couple of these 2 years ago and sold them as new now you would make a mint. The current high prices will probably drop off when other options become available.

"Best" is a relative term.

This is the actually WORST scanner GRE has ever produced. The user interface is terrible! I plan to dump my PSR-800 on eBay in the future. I am really tired of owning a handheld unit that is practically useless for programming away from a computer. The HP-1 beats the PSR-800 in every way when it comes to programming. Good thing GRE never had the chance to finish the PSR-900. They took the wrong direction with this user interface design.

Huh!? "Investment"? Nope, no way! At least not in the way that seems to be the way this thread seems to be going. Maybe in 40, 50, 60, or more years as some sort of `museum' type of object in some sort of highly specialized museum. And even then it would then have to be a pristine, supposedly fully functional, one of a kind type of item. Even with the supposedly `limited numbers' supposedly `sold' by GRE there are way too many examples already out.

Now... *IF* one was calling it an `investment' as is possibly being able to have one for useage in some sort of `disaster' scenario to, hopefully, be able to have some sort idea of what was going on. But, even then it isn't going to be really worth more than what was originally paid for it and most likley less.

*IF* one really has a need for more than one, maybe two, of them currently because of needing/wanting to monitor different `services' or whatever *maybe* having a couple `spares' as `backup' *might* possibly be called an `investment'. *That* would be a personal `call' though.

"Investment" in the context of this thread means buying one for $450 and selling it to somebody who is willing to pay $600 for it, getting you $150 that you didn't have before. As an example. If somebody is willing to pay $600 for a scanner, then that's what that person thinks it is worth.

Yes and if you pay $600 for one now and Uniden releases a P25 Phase II capable scanner next month, the PSR-800 will probably be worth about $150 - NOT a good investment then.
